Claimants may obtain, upon request, copies of claim-related documents. However, certain documents, including documents that contain medically privileged information, are excluded from the documents an insurer is required to provide to a claimant.
An insurance institution, agent, or insurance-support organization shall not disclose any personal or privileged information about an individual collected or received in connection with an insurance transaction without the proper written authorization of the individual.

The information disclosed shall be limited to that which is reasonably necessary to permit the person to protect his or her interest in the policy.
An insurance institution, agent, or insurance-support organization may disclose personal or privileged information about an individual to a group policyholder for the purpose of reporting claims experience or conducting an audit of the insurance institution's or agent's operations or services. The information disclosed must be reasonably necessary for the group policyholder to conduct the review or audit.
A person or entity that underwrites or sells annuity contracts or contracts insuring against loss, harm, damage, illness, disability, or death. . . shall not disclose individually identifiable information concerning the health of, or the medical or genetic history of, a customer, to any [other financial or credit institution.]
An insurance institution, agent, or insurance-support organization may disclose personal or privileged information about an individual to a governmental authority for the purpose of determining the individual's eligibility for health benefits for which the governmental authority may be liable.
With certain exceptions, a provider, broker, insurance company, insurance producer, information bureau, rating agency, or company, or any other person with actual knowledge of an insured's identity shall not disclose the identity of an insured or information that could be used to identify the insured or the insured's financial or medical information.
